According to the National Peanut Board website, the history of peanut butter dates back to the 1800s. Marcellus Edson patented peanut paste as a product of roasting peanuts between two heated plates. Later in the same century, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg patented a process to create it from raw peanuts. The creation of the peanut spread that we enjoy today can also be attributed to two other men.
